January 27, 2010 – Senator Smucker attended the York County Agriculture Recognition Banquet. Rexroth Farms was presented the 2010 Outstanding Farm Family Award at the 24th annual banquet held at the York Expo Center. The award is presented to a York family that exemplifies quality farming, everything from producing an excellent crop to involvement in the agriculture community. Rexroth Farms, located in Lower Windsor Township, includes about 800 head of cattle in both dairy and beef along with grain growing and handling facilities and equipment. Three generations of the Rexroth family have worked in agriculture as the farm has evolved to reflect the changing needs of an agriculture operation. Ken Roxroth and his son Jim are partners on the farm where Ken was raised. Rexroth Farms showcases the vitality, the continuity, the adaptability, that agriculture must have to survive and thrive. Another Lower Windsor Farm, the farm of Michael and Lynne Parrish, won the Outstanding Ag Industry Award. Mr. Parrish, a self-employed electrician and systems controls specialist, won the award for his expertise in repairing and servicing grain drying and grain handling equipment. Parrish, who began his business in 1995, has grown from a small, part-time electrical repair service to where he is today, one of the area's foremost design and repair specialist for grain systems. Today, Parrish's son, Nathan, works with his dad as they troubleshoot electrical problems throughout York County and the surrounding area. Every part of Michael's story is impressive – his technical skills, his business success, and his commitment to family, community, and faith. He is a Boy Scout leader, but it looks as if "Be prepared" has been his life motto.
