May 1, 2009 - Senator Smucker Hosts School Superintendents Roundtable.  School Superintendents from around the 13th Senatorial District gathered at Maple Grove Community Center in Lancaster Township to discuss a variety of issues with the Senator and members of his staff. Senator Smucker hosted the event so that he could hear from the Superintendents on issues that are important to them and the districts they serve. The Senator also desired to give them an update on some important things happening in Harrisburg. The state budget and education funding topped the topics discussed. School districts are now in the midst of preparing their budgets for the next fiscal year, which coincides with the state's budget start date of July 1. Other topics discussed were proposed graduation exams and mandate relief. Those in attendance believed it was a valuable opportunity and desired to continue to have such discussions on a regular basis.
