Senator Smucker toured the Lancaster Academy. The Academy, opened in November 1993, is a unique alternative public school located in the Park City Center mall in Lancaster. It is a business and education partnership formed by participating Lancaster County school districts, the Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit, and General Growth, Inc., with PA Department of Education approval. During the visit, the Senator spoke with Diane Tyson, Program Director, regarding the Academy's operation and curriculum. He also was able to see students working on a community project, stitching beetle bags.
